I am looked in

I right click and try to save to disk, but it only lets me save as different picture files.

Why is there not a download button in the first view of the sound, this is a stupid project, to much waiting and trouble..

You are saving the image of the sound instead of the sound. If you click on the sound name, a new window will open. In the upper right corner there will be a download link. That will get the sound file. I think it is like this to make sure you have to log in in order to get the files. Not sure though.

Hope that helps.

I am having the same trouble, I am unable to download anything! Very fustrating. When I right click my only options are to download the image. When I left clik another page opens where the sound plays but there are no other links to download it. :?

When you right-click the image, there should be an option like 'Save Target As'. This may have a different name, depending on what browser you use. If you choose 'Save As', you will download the image, that's not the option you want.
Apparently, there's an issue in Internet Explorer which can disable the option. Which is stupid. And yet another reason why you should stay far away from Internet Explorer.
In case you still can't download, can you list here every option you see in the popped up menu when you right-click the download link?

This is a bit embarrasing... but I can't download either! smile And I *work* with computers.

I'm using Firefox 3, I see the address to the .wav file and I right click and "Save link as". But I only get a 17 KB file with php contents.

I've tried Download Managers for Firefox - I always get a 17 KB file with php contents.

I've tried the command line tool "wget.exe" to download the .wav file directly - same 17 KB php file!

What's going on? I'm not a newbie, not even close... but I'm stuck. smile Should I have to try Internet Explorer?

UPDATE: I tried in Internet Explorer and everything works perfectly. I have never had these kind of problems in Firefox before, so I'm just perplexed!

I am using firefox 3.0.5 and can not download either. I do not get a "save target as" or "save as" only "save link as" which when I download it ... it does not work .. it's a small phd file. ?? what gives?

I don't know, honestly. I've never had so many technical download problems as I've had on freesound.org. sad A great site, nonetheless!

This seems to be an issue with Firefox. I looked at the code and between the 2.X and 3.X series they removed the "save link target as" logic and code It was a different module and was probably removed for obsolescence. Unfortunately, they didn't get the same logic back in. Now it could be that the Firefox code is written for W3C compliance and freesound doesn't conform. I've opened a problem record at Mozilla Firefox and maybe at some point they will get around to fixing this.

In the meantime, other browsers don't report an issue, and I've used Seamonkey without a problem.

And in Firefox 3.0.5, a workaround is to install NoScript and when you come to freesound, log in and them make sure that scripting is not allowed for the freesound site. Then when you go to the download page, left click on the "Download" image. It will try to play the link target and be unable to because you have scripting turned off. A message from NoScript will come up. Right click anywhere on the page and use "Save link as" and it will bring up a dialog allowing you to save the file. This works because Firefox has already followed the php link and NoScript has blocked it, so you are selecting the sound file instead of the php file with the right click.

On a point of order, May I ask the admin or moderator's advice on something? In recent times there seems to have been a number of topics posted on the same subject; download related problems. Given that this is the case, would it not be a good idea to possibly look at merging them all into one topic, and possibly put this up as a topic in the FAQ section? :?: And will the moderator or admin take a look at this issue and report back to me or the forum?

Look forward to your reply.

Cheers

Good! A section in the FAQs section on this is necesary to prevent this topic from coming up time and time again. Someone from admin please reply. Meanwhile, if anyone else has trouble in this area please read all the threads first before posting.

Thank you
