I get a lot of inane comments from younger users and people who don't understand the premise of my projects.

The point of this site, and the many techniques and disciplines that feed it, is to grow and expand. This process often involves making something primitive or low-quality, then figuring out how to gradually improve it. In this way we can learn how to do many things without expense or danger - like simulate gunfire, or lions, or monsters.

It seems that many only wish to criticize ideas, shoot them down, or claim they're impossible. None of these strategies are going to result in the creation of anything nice. They're just going to lower the morale of the people who are putting in work to make Freesound better.

If an idea is outright dangerous, really bad, or based on a disingenuous premise, by all means shoot it down. I've done this before. For instance, I have dismissed the notion that I'm some kind of "unsung hero of the industry" because I am just a guy who has fun making things. No disrespect to the one who proposed that idea, but I don't think anything that happens on here is analogous to heroism. Heroism has insanely high standards for a reason.

Will you staff members/devs consider giving us a better strategy than just deleting individual comments? There are certain problem users I'd like to screen out completely.

Hi,

Dealing with spam/inappropriate behaviour is not a nice thing to do, and also it is quite hard to do it efficiently. We have a reporting system that you can use and when users get flagged multiple times we get notifications and we can take action, but before that the only thing you can do it to remove comments individually. It is also on our list of things to do to make a new interface to deal with the spam/offensive reports which would allow us to deal with them more efficiently (the current workflow is quite tedious), but I don't know when that will finally happen.
