I thought it only fair, since I have been spending the largest part of the last week here, to stop in and say, "Hello and thanks." I feel like such a parasite, as I have yet to upload anything. Perhaps soon I will create something on par with the quality of what I have found here.

Nothing really important or insightful in this post, just couldn't go on anymore with out letting everyone know how pleased I am with the project, website, and contributions. I could go on and on, but I feel that I'm already rambling. My ears cannot thank you all enough!!!

the alley cat,

I entirely agree! By no means have I downloaded everything; I think there are so many sounds and growing I could easily fill up my computer! smile If there is one thing that this site has shown, it is that you can have very good, usable sound effects and music without having to pay for it.

Keep it up all of you! grin

Cheers

Exactly!

I have checked demos and trials of many paysites and other freesites and nothing comes close to the quality of The Freesound Project! In addition to the sheer volume of sonds here, it seems that so many talented people are on the same "wavelength" as I am. Most of the music (and I use that term loosely hahaha) that I create for my own personal enjoyment is a bit on the dark and gritty side. There is a huge amount of sounds that fit perfectly with the style that I'm going for. Also, when searching other sites I have to go through so many files that are of no interest to me. But at Freesound it is quick and easy to search and find what I'm looking for.

Again, I'm rambling, so I will leave echoing what Matt said,

Keep up the amazing work!

I just registered to this site, and wanted to say just exactly the same thing! What a great site!

This is almost like my computer directly connected to a large library of sound collections...and it's growing! This is so good my collection of sound effects CDs suddenly feels archaic...

I know this thread's old, but it got bumped, and it seems like the place to write about this -

Not only is it nice to be able to come here and get sounds, it is also nice to know that I can record things, put them on here, and expect them to be used and valued by others.
Without Freesound, I would only ever make the samples my songs needed at a given time, so a good 90% of the stuff I've uploaded here never would have existed without FS.

Back in the days of Napster, WinMX, eMule, etc., many people would make amateur music, but put a popular artist's name on it and send it out. I downloaded a lot of stuff back then. There were times when I thought I was downloading heavy metal or Aphex Twin, but it was really someone's bedroom project. I heard a lot of cool sounds and music because of that, but I never found out who really made any of those songs. It lent a sense of adventure to music, and to the internet, which I hope to recreate for future people by building worlds of sound for them.

I've just come around to returning to this site after many years and downloaded some of your stuff just today.

I remember this as well, and I think it's going to eventually come around back to those days.
