So...

Title says it all. Am I able to upload a beat made with Ableton Live to Freesound? Just little bit concerned about this because actually using Ableton Live's sound libraries...
...That I actually once bought.
So there's actually:

-Sound libraries of the DAW.
-Owned DAW.
-Me making a beat from DAW's resources.
-Uploading the beats to freesound.

Or is freesound more like only a sample, and not a beat library. However it would be great if beats are approved, since I'm having the time and money to make them. It also feels like finally finding a purpose in life, if I can really, really do this more in the near future!

Thanks in advance
-STM

In sort of a short description: Yes you can upload beats to Freesound so long as the beats are your own sounds or the sounds that you acquired to make the beat have been mixed beyond recognition of the isolated sample/beat and you have read and understood the terms of said beats so you don't breach copyright.

So it really depends on where you got those sounds and if you understood the terms correctly. Unfortunately in alot of cases, no one does read the terms and so then I have to investigate to make sure they are legal to upload to freesound.
Generally tho, I have noticed that most DAW's sound libraries are pretty lenient on sharing restrictions but I would just go over Ableton's terms to be sure and to save me the hassle of looking into it smile

And on a side note, if the beat is mixed with other sounds like synths, bass, piano, ect... then it is almost considered a song which by Freesound's rules must be under 1 minute.

For more information about uploading please read our legality/sounds section at this link below.

I see...

Yeah, I really should familiarize myself with Ableton terms more. I read the FAQ here to a T. And there's the actual answer:

"Freesound isn't meant to upload songs, it's for sounds!"

And that's okay... I already have a profile on soundcloud.com. It's just making beats for other people to build on is fun. As a question: Do you know any websites that will approve beats/loops made by artists or other musicians?

While feeling creative, I'll drop more sounds here. And maybe beats that include 100% self-made samples. grin

Still checking Ableton's site or contacting them just to be sure. If there's still a way to make these beats happen...

Thanks for looking into this! Really appreciate it! smile

Eventually, if I learn something new regarding this, gonna post any additional info on this topic.

No problem at all, I am glad to help!

As far as your question goes regarding where to share your beats, I am not entirely sure but maybe someone could lean in and share some good sites.

One thing to mention is that you can upload beats that are fragments of your song(Under 1 minute but if its slightly over then I may allow it), these types of sounds are actually useful for people who wish to use fragmented beats so they can utilize it for a podcast/youtube/shortfilm/games/ect..I have had this happen for me on multiple occasions so don't be afraid to shoot your shot, the worst thing that could happen is I or another mod would say no.

In the end, freesound is a library of sounds to be used and built upon to create the beats but not so much to host them. Youtube and Soundcloud are more meant for that creative expression but I sure do wish there was a dedicated portion of Freesound that was for that.
