Out of curiosity, does anyone here know exactly how this sound: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/soundeffects/images/6/6e/Sound_Ideas%2C_BOING%2C_CARTOON_-_BIG%2C_LONG_BOING.ogg/
was created? I personally really love this sound and I think it'd be awesome if I knew exactly it was created. I'm guessing it was done with either a string instrument or one of those "boing box" contraptions.

Not sure, but I can make something close with a strat and whammy bar. Maybe?

The vibrato is too regular to be done by hand, (~5Hz BTW).

To me it sounds like a puddy knife being smacked and then maybe slightly saturated/distorted/lower pitched.
A puddy knife wobble sounds almost identical to this but naturally has higher pitch in most cases, I guess some can sound lower pitch just like this too if altered into a similar configuration.
Large sheets of thin metal can also recreate this sound effect if wobbled in a way just like the puddy knife.

If so desired, try going into any home depot or home improvement store and finding sheet metal or a large puddy knife and giving it a wobble. smile

I assume this is a sound effect from disney/looney tunes?
Brings to mind Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner or tom and jerry.

In the end it really could be anything and just goes to show that they did sound foley way differently back in the day.
