Folks,

I feel that Freesound logs users way too quickly. I constantly have to log back in, whereas I don't remember the last time I had to login into SoundCloud or Facebook. And I don't think that Freesound is that sensitive a resource to begin with, in terms of security or privacy.

At least giving an option to set cookie expiration time to forever or like a year would be awesome.

I don't get logged out for weeks - I assume that must be a setting in your browser?

I am not aware of any settings. I would say that out of all the websites I visit (reddit, Facebook, YouTube, various forums), Freesound is the only one that logs me out. I don't know how quickly, but I can say that it's the only resource that I come back to and have to log in again.

I feel the same way.
It definitely logs you out way too quickly.
I wish freesound gave you the option to stay
logged in, or let you save your login.

This is definitely an issue on your end and your specific system/browser deleting cookies.

I can't even remember the last time I manually logged in, actually yes it was about 6 months ago when I wiped my browser cache and cookies. smile

Really?
Well do you know what might I do to fix it?
Other websites don't behave like this,
(Logging me out I mean) so I thought it was a
freesound thing.
No other websites have their cookies deleted?
I'm logged into a ton of websites but I never
get logged out of those.

Which web browser are you using?

I use Brave (Chromium) on one device,
and Firefox on the other.

Oh okay, it's happening on two separate devices...

First thing would be to clear the cookies and cache for both browsers, a fresh start sometimes sorts things out. Start again from scratch.

I'm not sure about the settings options for those browsers because I use Chrome. In my settings I'm allowing all cookies, but I'm using a third party application to clean my browser data with exceptions to certain websites added to a whitelist.

But I'm going to assume you have blocking third party cookies enabled in the security settings, it's often the default in privacy focused browsers. You could try adding an exception for https://www.freesound.org.

Failing that, in the security settings you could allow all cookies instead of blocking third party cookies and then activate deleting cookies on close. If you do this then make sure to add the exceptions for sites you use regularly because obviously you'll be logged out of every website

Let me know if any of this works smile

Thanks so much for the tips!

I'll go check out my settings and see if anything is off.
Brave basically is just Google chrome because it runs off chromium so whatever works there should work here in theory.

Just checked on my old Vista/Firefox/desktop and Win10/laptop.

Cookies and login seem to behave as follows:-

Freesound sessionid cookie resets to 14 days 00h00m in the future every time you visit. You shouldn't get logged out before a couple of weeks absence on the particular browser you're using. (for instance visiting freesound on your phone will not extend the login window on your desktop & vise versa.)

The obvious exceptions are if you manage/clear/delete/corrupt cookies as Headphaze has noted, or browse in private/incognito mode.

This seems consistent with my 13 years of visiting freesound.

If there are other factors/conditions to add this brief consideration I've no idea what they may be.

All the Bestest,

Wibby.

Ah now see this makes more sense.
I don't always look at freesound from the same
device. I flip back and forth, so if the log out time is a short 2 weeks which are also not consistent between separate logins, that would clearly explain the issue!
You just solved the issue friend!!

Aww.. Thanks Headphaze. What a heartwarming thing to say.

And it made me laugh.... Reminded me of the Big Bang episode where Sheldon Cooper gets a compliment from Stephen Hawking.
