I just noticed that when I'm NOT logged in, most pages (the front page and any sample pages, etc), have a column of useful links along the right with things like a search bar, the latest samples and forum posts, most activer users, most popular downloads, etc. When I log in, this column disappears. This seems rather unfortunate, since those links are quite useful.. Is this the intended behavior of the site or is it a bug?

This happens to me on both Firefox 1.5 and Safari under Mac OSX 10.4.

there is a sidebar button, in brown, sort of rectangular with a arrow inside, click on it and you'll have your menus back...

Indeed there is, and indeed it works.

Thanks!
