Hi there...I am a new member, and downloaded a couple of packs yesterday. I love the site, and the sounds I found.

Unfortunately, what I know about sound files can be written on the back of a toy postage stamp. I unzipped the files and they play fine in Winamp. Trouble is, they are aiff, and I can't convert them to WAV files, because none of the converters I have downloaded seems to be able to convert aiff to WAV.

Is there a simple solution to this, please? I know this should be posted in help, but I wasn't allowed to post there, and was here.

I know you can convert AIFF with WaveLab, but don't know any good freeware that can do the job...surely someone around here has a good suggestion

btw, what are the advantages of the aiff format? I've read it's a lossy compression format like mp3, but has it got a superior quality-compression rate or why is it that some peole use this format (coz it's not so widely spread and supported in audio-programmes as mp3 these days)? am I right that more apple-users use it?

AIF/AIFF is a format invented by Apple. It basicaly has the same properties as WAV.

there is a free version of wavpad that can convert anything. Audacity also opens aif. from there you just export as wav or mp3.
