When I try to play downloaded wave-files in Adobe Premiere, or even in Mediaplayer, they don't work. "Unknown error", or "unsupported" it says.
iTunes doesn't seem to have a problem with them...
What's wrong?

I'm just guessing now (because i've had mad problems with that junk itunes and its junk buddy ipod) that its because u have itunes set as your main media player?

speaking for a pc user Itunes really messes up your system so in many respects you are better off running winamp and a few plugins for your ipod that if your music library gets to large.

ITS MY OPINION THAT YOU DON'T BUY AN IPOD. I AM ON MY 3RD ONE IN LESS THAN 6 MONTHS. MAC NEVER DISCLOSES THESE PROBLEMS (that they break so easy) BUT MANY IPOD OWNERS AT SOME POINT HAVE HAD TO TAKE THEIRS BACK BECAUSE THEY SIMPLY STOP WORKING.

ipod is a great idea that needs LOTS OF RETHINKING.

after all all it is is just a hard drive in a cheap plastic case.

Indeed, iTunes is set as my main mediaplayer, but I never had problems with playing wave-files in Windows Mediaplayer or Adobe Premiere, I still don't have problems, except for files downloaded from this site. Mediaplayer tries to search for a codec, followed by "unknown error occured"...
Would it solve my problem if changed my main mediaplayer??

some of the wavefiles on freesound use rather professional specifications like 96KHz or 24 (even 32) bit.
this is most likely why itunes doesn't like them.

try opening the wave files in an audio editor like audacity (do a google.)
