Dear Freesound technician,

For information only..

It still appears that the system is having problems processing larger audio files.

https://freesound.org/people/klankbeeld/sounds/836848/
I am providing the above file as an example.
Once the file has been uploaded, I will describe it. When I am finished, I receive the following message:
504 Gateway Timeout
nginx

The file cannot be found in my files for several minutes;
https://freesound.org/home/sounds/manage/published/

A little later, I see that the file is in the queue and has been processed correctly.

After this, the system is back to normal speed.

Kind regards

Hey f’riends,
Personally, I also encounter a strange issue when I upload a large file (about 400MB or more) :
Very often, the system informs me that ‘’something went wrong’’, but when I go to the ‘’pending description’’ tab, the sound is here anyway, and can be selected and described or removed, as usual.
So, nothing really disturbing, but still worth mentioning.

Wishing you all the best !

Kevin

I too have been experiencing this issue yesterday and today, making it a real struggle to upload anything and get it described. Often get 'Something went wrong' once upload had completed, but some of the files are well below 400MB, though still not small (all substantial soundscapes). Other times I get the Gateway error but sometimes 503 (currently unavailable).

Also, when I click the save button at bottom when I've completed the description, usually there's a long pause, then a Gateway timeout message. Sometimes the description really has been dropped, so I have to enter it again, BUT more often it looks as though that has happened but what has really happened is that the upload, complete with description, is passing through the stages, but the status display on my Manage Sounds panel is very slow indeed to update, so initially I see '1' against Pending Description, but if I click on that, the Describe File page shows nothing there, and it looks as though my file is lost. After a while it then shows up against 'Processing', and eventually gets completed. But occasionally both file and description do actually evaporate. — Clearly not ideal! smile

I recently uploaded a 10h audio track after some struggle with the upload sound it passed though. Though now after processing it seems to have been cut short to 3h40 ish.

Hi,

We're sorry that this things continue to happen, but we have not yet been able to implement a more definitive fix for it. This is related to the processing of such big files, which for some reason makes Freesound unstable. We have some ideas for improving that (which would surely result in slower processing times), but these are not straightforward to implement. We'll get this fixed eventually, but meanwhile you'll have to be patient.

Thank you!!
